Streaming live on YouTube, over 100 Onewheel riders take over Northstar’s downhill mountain bike course competing for a $2,500 grand prize.
TRUCKEE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#BoardSports—Onewheel, an electric board company, will host its biggest and most ambitious competition to date, The Race for the Rail, at the legendary Northstar Resort and Bike Park on August 1-4. Over 100 of the best Onewheel riders in the world will compete in the boardercross style race to win a grand prize of $2,500 and a sponsored trip by Polaris Adventures.
The tournament-style competition features 4 riders per heat, competing simultaneously and jockeying for position on off-road trails. The first and second-place finishers from each heat will advance to the next round, culminating in a championship race. “It’s like March Madness, except people are elbowing each other on Onewheels at top speed down a mountain biking course,” says Onewheel Chief Evangelist Jack Mudd. “It’s going to be incredibly exciting, and bringing the race to a premier resort like Northstar and streaming it live for the world to watch gives it the stage it deserves.”
With 200,000+ followers on Instagram and tens of millions of views on YouTube, The Race for the Rail is Onewheel’s latest effort in making memorable, world-class experiences for its fans. “This is what people want to see,” Mudd adds. “We threw a party in The Most Boring Town in America earlier this year, now we’re going to find out who can ride down ski slopes fastest on a single wheel. You can’t look away. Sooner than later, it’ll be on TV.”
The Race for the Rail semi-final and final rounds will be broadcast live on YouTube by Transition Productions, presenter of the Spartan Games, World Surf League events and US Open of Surf. The live stream will begin at 3:45 pm PST on August 3 on Onewheel’s YouTube channel.
Race for the Rail has evolved into a full weekend of family-friendly Onewheel festivities. The 4-day long event is centered at Northstar Village in Lake Tahoe and will include live music performances, film screenings, demos and even a wine tasting. “The Onewheel brand is about trying new things and having a good time,” said Onewheel Events Manager Sarah Sandoval. “We’re really excited to share a weekend event that embodies that.” Early Bird tickets to the event have sold out, but weekend and single-day passes are still available to the public onsite at Northstar and on Eventbrite.
Onewheel has partnered with industry titans GoPro, Yeti and Polaris Adventures to help take the race and weekend of events to the next level. There will also be experiences and activations from Yerba Matte, Kavu, Oru Kayaks, Eno Hammocks, Sanuk, Pathwater and more. For more information on the event click here.
